Overview

AIOSchema uses registries to manage pluggable mechanisms: hash algorithms, signature algorithms, anchor services, and extension prefixes. Registries are the formal mechanism by which the standard evolves without breaking compatibility.

During the founder-controlled phase, all registries are maintained by the founder. Upon establishment of the AIOSchema Foundation, registry maintenance transfers to the Foundation.

Vendor Prefix Registration

Vendor and experimental extension fields MUST use a registered x-<vendor>- prefix. The prefix format is:

x-{org-identifier}-{field-name}

Registration requirements:

The prefix MUST be unique: no two vendors may register the same prefix.
The prefix MUST NOT conflict with any Core Block field or registered extension field name.
Fields under the prefix MUST be documented before use in conforming manifests.
The combined extension payload MUST fit within the 4KB size limit (Specification §6.3).
The prefix MUST be registered before it appears in conforming manifests.

Commercial use of a registered vendor prefix requires a registry license. To register, use the proposal process.

IPR Commitment

All algorithms and mechanisms registered in AIOSchema registries are covered by the Royalty-Free IPR commitment published at /ipr/. Registry contributors are bound by the same RF commitment for any contributions they make.

Governance Transition

AIOSchema is currently in its founder-controlled pre-governance phase. The specification and all registries are authored and maintained by the founder, with full editorial control.

An independent AIOSchema Foundation will be established to provide operational stewardship and maintain the registries. The founder will retain a permanent voting role. All charter details will be defined at the time of its creation.
